Calibrate conducted polls in both 2020 and 2022 which found that only 33% of law firms allow business services professionals to participate in their programming for affinity groups, with an additional 46% noting inclusion some of the time. Further, 72% of respondents indicated that they were not included in firm alumni programming. These business services professionals—members of legal operations, human resources, finance, information technology, marketing, and administration —are critical to a law firm’s success, but far too often are not treated as valuable members of the law firm ecosystem.

By failing to address the need for inclusion enterprise-wide, law firms are only partially delivering on the full commitment that clients want and expect. If everyone is not included, diversity can never flourish.
